Summer Skin Quick Tips!

As the weather starts to warm there are different skin problems that you have to worry about, especially in the south!  Here are some solutions to some common summertime skin problems.



It’s pretty much inevitable that at some point during the summer months you’ll lay out a little too long with too little sun protection.  To help soothe the pain and swelling from a sunburn immediately take two aspirin or ibuprofen as soon as possible.  You can also make milk compresses by soaking a washcloth in a bowl of ice-cold whole milk and drape it over the burn until the cloth is room temperature.




The recommended intake for H2O is 8 glasses and beneficial for your entire body including your skin!  The proper intake of water and proper amount of sleep can help keep your skin clear, healthy, and give you an extra glow.



Your skin needs an afternoon pick-up too!  According to a recent study, women look oldest at exactly 3:30 pm on Wednesday afternoons…no bueno! That is when stress levels peak and energy levels drop and ultimately leaving your skin dry, grungy, and blah.  To combat the afternoon blah skin you can pat a little lotion on your cheeks, under your eyes, and anywhere else you need to get a little extra glow and get you through the rest of the day.



Exfoliation is key to healthy skin but there is a limit! Make sure you are not rubbing aggressively because that can lead to irritation.  A scrub is designed to do the work for you so just put it on like you would a moisturizer to get glowy-not red-skin.



Do you always seem to attract mosquitos?  Try taking a daily vitamin B12 supplement!  Studies show that it causes your skin to give off a scent that repels mosquitoes that only the mosquitos can smell.  If you do get a mosquito bite an ice cube over the area.  It tricks your nerves so you don’t feel the itch anymore.



So you have a big event or date that you have been awaiting and of course you get a pimple right before, that’s always how it works right?  Well never fear just wet the tip of a cotton swab with Listerine and dab it on the spot.  The alcohol in the rinse dries the zit fast!  Then you will be all set for you big event 🙂


Breaking out from sunscreen?  Try a mineral sunscreen, the active ingredients (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, or both) sit on top of the skin instead of being absorbed so you are less likely to have a breakout.



Here in good ol’ North Carolina we are no strangers to the heat and worst of all is the high humidity levels we have.  You can stay drier longer by using an antiperspirant that is clinical strength.  These antiperspirants have the highest level of sweat shields to block sweat glands temporarily.  You can even glide some on other hot spots like your lower back or cleavage to keep dry there too.



Backne is the worst! Especially in the summer with all your cute strappy summer dresses.  Shampoos and conditioners can leave an oily film on your shoulders and back so make sure to thoroughly rinse your hair AND your skin before getting out of the shower.



Razor burn is just about as bad as the backne!  Clam razor burn by applying a thin coat of one-percent hydrocortisone cream or Aquaphor Healing Ointment to soothe inflammation.  And make sure to keep the area out of the sun until it heals since UV exposure can worsen the bumps and irritation.
